THESIS COLLECTION

2024-2025

This thesis collection explores the world of sailing, from the classic sailor’s uniform to the overlapping of sails and the way they are constructed.

In my research I selected archetypes of men’s sailor’s uniforms such as the pantalon à pont, the vareuse and the pea coat as well as the shirt and skirt from the women’s uniforms. These archetypes inspired tailored silhouettes, function and construction but also fabrics and colours; wool and cashmere, navy and whites.

The second research element of this collection was the actual sails.
The images of sails overlapping translated into textile manipulations. For example, the triangular sections patch-worked with flat-felled seams in various shades of white and off white in silks and nylons.
The sails construction and technical details also inspired the use of suede and leather, eyelets and ribbons, machine and hand zigzag stitching, radial paneling…
